You are invited to the Fourth Open Meeting of the Veterinary Residues Committee

Wednesday 31 October 2007, Agri-Foods and Biosciences Institute, Belfast.

Are you interested in finding out how the committee makes its decisions? If so, please accept our invitation to come, watch and participate.

The Veterinary Residues Committee (VRC) will hold its 4th Open Meeting at the Agri-Food and Biosciences Institute in Belfast on 31 October 2007. Registration will be at 10.00 am, and the meeting will begin at 10.30 am. Admission is free, but you will need a ticket.

The VRC provides independent advice to the Veterinary Medicines Directorate and Food Standards Agency on surveillance programmes looking for residues of veterinary medicines and certain other substances in animals and animal products.

We hope you can attend

The VRC wants to take every opportunity to hear your views on aspects of its work. Up to now, the VRC has held its Open Meetings in London. While this is convenient for many, it is not for everyone – especially those in Northern Ireland, where the livestock industry is such an important part of the economy.

At the end of both the morning and afternoon sessions, there will be the opportunity to participate and give your views to the committee on what has been discussed.

The Committee hopes that by initiatives, such as Open Meetings and publishing its meeting papers and minutes, you will understand the basis of the UK’s surveillance schemes for veterinary residues and will be reassured that there is independent scrutiny of Government activity in this important area.

To apply for tickets please click here (Microsoft Word document). Please state whether you want a ticket for morning or afternoon or both sessions. Lunch will be provided for those attending both sessions. Please let us know of any special dietary requirements.

Alternatively, you can write to;

or telephone on 01932 338330

or email to i.sharma@vmd.defra.gsi.gov.uk
